A Big, Fat Punjabi-Cajun Wedding

“We mixed both of our cultures together to make our wedding dreams come true,” shares Channi. “I am Punjabi, Indian and Jude is full on Cajun. We managed to infuse both of our traditions and give our friends and family the perfect balance of both cultures. My friends and family flew out from Los Angeles, Ca while Jude’s friends and family drove out from Lockport, La. Everything was enmeshed perfectly!”

I'm so excited to share Channi and Jude's gorgeous New Orleans Museum of Art wedding with the world! Be sure to scroll to the end to see Channi and Jude's video by my friends at Dyle Films.

The First Look

We started in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden for their First Look with this amazing mosaic mural by artist Teresita Fernández, entitled "Viñales" as the backdrop.

I love the colors and organic movement in this mural! After the First Look, we had just a few minutes for some portraits, so I took Channi and Jude to one of my favorite sculptures in the garden: "Mirror Labyrinth" by Danish artist Jeppe Hein.

The Baraat

For Indian weddings, the baraat, or groom's procession, is an integral part of the wedding celebration. Jude, who is quite the amazing dancer, and the couple's guests embraced this tradition and danced thru the Sculpture Garden following the lead of dohl player Adam Khan.

The Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony also took place in the Sculpture Garden beneath live oaks dripping with moss.

Channi and Jude said under a gold mandap draped with shimmering pink fabric. Judge Kevin Centanni officiated.

The Wedding Reception

The wedding reception took place in NOMA's Freeport-McMoran Great Hall.

Some of the sweetest details ever <3 Channi, an elementary school teacher, asked her students to write what they think love is and framed their hand-written responses to display on the reception guest tables.

I want my couples to look at their photographs and see all the details that they painstakingly chose as well as the ambiance of their wedding, not to mention all the once-in-a-lifetime moments that happen throughout the day.

Channi and Jude's reception was non-stop action and so much fun to photograph. There were dance-offs and an epic Second Line send off featuring Kinfolk Brass Band!
